How long does it take for credit bureaus to raise your score?

Say you went from having moderate debt to paying it off.. how long could it take before seeing a dramatic increase in your score?

How long does it take for credit bureaus to raise your score?

It is actually not that simple. For Example the FICO Score is made up of the following.

35% - Payment History

30% - Balances Owed

15% - Length of Credit History

10% - Types of Credit

10% - New Credit

As you can see your score is made up of many factors. So it is impossible to tell if you will even see a %26quot;dramatic%26quot; increase in your score. You may see a rise but due to the other factors it may be very minimal, or it may be a big increase.

As to when it will change. Your score is based on your current report. So anytime your report changes your score will change. Most creditors who report, will report once a month. So you should see your new score within about a month.

anywhere from 1 month to 4 months. it depends on how soon your card/account reports your balance to the credit agency.

Creditors are required to report changes/payments to the major repositories by the 3rd of each month. Unfortunately this does not always happen.

Various factors determine how fast your credit score will rise. I%26#039;ve seen customers who were 2 months late on a student loan bring it current and their score goes up almost 50 points.

One of the biggest items that hurts your credit is high balances on credit cards. Try to keep them at 30% of the high balance.

Say you have 3 open credit cards which are all at their high balance and you get some money and are able to pay these cards down to a 0 balance. I%26#039;ve seen this raise credit scores by 60 points. Open tradelines are great for your credit. You just don%26#039;t want to max them out.

I%26#039;m a Loan Officer and have worked with many customers on raising their credit score.

The formula that calculates the FICO is locked up tighter than Fort Knox. No one knows it. The best thing everyone can do for each other is share what they found helps raise their FICO through personal experience.
