Do I have the right to withhold my credit report contingent on preliminary acceptance?

I don%26#039;t want perspective employers to dig into my report and lower my scores simply because they can with little or no interest in hiring. Is there anything anywhere that upholds my right to privacy until such time as the interview process is complete (contingent on the OK from the credit bureaus)?

I don%26#039;t know why an employer would bother to check your credit unless they were prepared to offer you a job.

You have the right to refuse the job if the employer wants to run a credit check.

Inquiries from employers are not scored.

Stop obsessing over your credit, it%26#039;s not that sacred. Save your money, pay cash and don%26#039;t worry about getting some 10K limit on a VISA (HINT: you have to pay these things, you see)

Employers cannot look at applicant%26#039;s credit report any time they want. They must have your written consent first.

And I doubt the company is going to consider hiring you if you%26#039;re unwilling to disclose your financial condition until they let you know they%26#039;re seriously considering you as a candidate or after you%26#039;re hired. Especially, if your potential job is handling money.

I don%26#039;t believe that the background checks that an employer performs on your credit report will affect your credit score.
